Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has revealed the reason for his absence and two of his colleagues at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) mega rally in Osun State.

Naija News reports that Ortom alongside Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) were absent at the rally to canvass votes for the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

In an interview on Arise News on Thursday, Ortom said the governors did not attend the PDP rally in Osun because they were out of the country.

Governor Ortom also refuted claims that they refused to attend the rally because the governors were contemplating dumping the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Hie said: “Coming to why some of us were absent, I was not around, I travelled. This was a programme that was planned over three months ago. I had to go to the United Kingdom, I had to go to the United States of America.

“I actually met with Governor Wike in London and met with my brother, the Governor of Oyo State, Makinde, and the Governor of Abia state. That provided an opportunity to brainstorm on what was happening back home at our party, the PDP especially.”

Ortom noted that the 2023 presidential election would be a repeat of what happened in the Osun governorship election, which was won by the candidate of the PDP, Senator Adeleke.
