    Jul 18, 2022

Former Kogi West lawmaker, Dino Melaye has hailed the victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just-concluded Osun governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Naija News recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Adeleke as the winner of the June 16 governorship election.

Adeleke defeated the incumbent governor of the state and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola and thirteen other candidates to emerge victorious.

The PDP candidate won 17 local government areas in the state, while Governor Oyetola won the remaining 13 local government areas.

Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to win the election, while the incumbent governor gathered 375,027 votes to come second in the election.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, Melaye said that the victory recorded by the PDP and its governorship candidate in the election was well-deserved.

The former lawmaker stated that the win is a good omen for the opposition party and signs of things to come for the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in 2023.

Melaye also congratulated Senator Adeleke on his victory and advised him to be magnanimous in victory in the interest of the people of the state and as well justify the confidence reposed in him by way of his election.

The PDP chieftain also felicitated the people of Osun State for the smooth conduct of the election, describing them as the real winners as they have been able to freely choose their leader for the next four years.

He said: “This is a good omen for our party and signs of things to come in 2023.

“The victory of our party in Osun State is an indication of the confidence of ordinary Nigerians in the ability of PDP to change the narrative and deliver good governance to all.”
