A former presidential aspirant and chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, has officially announced his exit from Nigerian politics.

In a statement released on Wednesday and made available to Naija News, the popular politician stated that his decision to leave politics is to allow the younger politicians to succeed.

He asked young politicians to draw wisdom from his wealth of experience and continue with the struggle for a better Nigeria from where he stopped.

The member of the PDP Board Of Trustees (BOT) added he has been mentoring the younger generation who will sustain his political ideology and philosophy.

According to the 78-year old, quitting politics would enable him to focus on his charity organisation, businesses and family.

Iwaunyanwu, however, promised to continue to serve his people in his capacity as the Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council of Elders.

Before I take a bow in politics, I wish to put on record once again my key thoughts on several National questions that are yearning for answers which were the main reasons I ventured into politics and actually aspired for the office of the President of Nigeria thrice with the hope of fixing Nigeria one day.

“Unfortunately, providence was not on my side to be President of Nigeria. The younger generation of leaders can through these little views of mine, draw wisdom from my wealth of experience and continue with the struggle for a better Nigeria (in the context of partisan politics) from where I stopped.

“On September 4th 2021, it pleases the Lord that I mark my 79th birthday so quitting politics would enable me to focus on my charity organisation,” parts of the statement read.

    Early life

Iwuanyanwu was born on September 4th, 1942 in Atta, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. He is a civil engineer, industrialist, politician, football club owner and philanthropist.

The billionaire attended St. Patrick’s School, Rukpoku, Port Harcourt, Rivers State from 1948 to 1954. He thereafter enrolled at New Bethel College in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Iwuanyanwu had his undergraduate studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he studied civil engineering between 1963 and 1970.

The Igbo leader was the founding Chairman Nigerian National Lottery, Chairman National Orthopedic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos and presently the Pro-Chancellor University of Calabar.
