PDP May Ask Ayu To Resign As National Chairman

Key stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may ask the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to resign from office.

There are indications that Ayu would be asked to step aside to fulfil one of the demands of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The stakeholders also believe that the decision would bring about peace to the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

According to Tribune, the decision may be reached as soon as the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party meet.

A member of the NEC of the party said since the BoT Chairman, Walid Jibrin had condemned the party leadership being led by major northerners, the party would now decide Ayu’s fate.

The NEC member said, “Ayu declared that if the presidential candidate emerges from the North and the PDP says on account of that he should leave the office that as a Democrat, he will do that. Has the party asked Ayu to leave? That’s the question. Initially, my position was that the matter wasn’t before the party because the agitations were outside of the party.

“But now that the BoT chairman has brought the issue to the domain of the party and even has his suggestions, that means the matter has come before the party. So, the party should be allowed to deal with the matter.”

Ayu’s removal from office would be concluded by the party’s critical organs, including the National Working Committee (NWC), PDP Governors Forum; former PDP Ministers Forum; the BoT, and the National Caucus and ratified by its NEC.
