The call for the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has been intensified.

The camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had championed the call for Ayu to resign from office.

Governor Wike’s camp as part of its demands to support the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar had called for Ayu to resign from office.

The main opposition party in the past few weeks has experienced back and forth over the issue with Governor Wike and Ayu exchanging words.

Naija News learnt that the crack in the party is deepened as some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) support the call.

According to Daily Sun, some members, including two national vice chairmen have joined forces with Ayu’s opponents.

The Governors who are calling for Ayu’s resignation include Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The National Working Committee and Board of Trustees of the party are expected to meet this week to decide the fate of the party chairman.

    I Won’t Resign – Ayu Insists

The National Chairman of the PDP, Ayu despite calls for his resignation had insisted that he would not resign from office.

Ayu last Thursday clearly stated that he is not bothered by the calls for his resignation.

He said he was elected based on the laid down rules of the main opposition party, adding that if there would be another election, those calling for his resignation would not be replacing him.

Speaking on the people calling for his resignation, Ayu said he would not allow those he described as children to destroy the party they built.
