Akin Agbaje, an ally of Governor Godwin Obaski of Edo State, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Commissioner for Energy and Electricity and his supporters were received by the former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole on Sunday in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Agbaje said he returned to the APC with many of his supporters to ensure that the party reclaims Edo state in the 2023 governorship election.

The former Director of Obaseki Campaign Organisation during the 2020 governorship election described his return to the APC as coming back home to roost.

He vowed to join hands with other leaders of the party to ensure that the APC wins in Akoko Edo in next year’s general election.

In his remarks, Oshiomhole commended Agbaje for returning to the party to rebuild the state and the nation worthy for all citizens.

The former governor warned political leaders against what he described as the institutionalisation of poverty among the citizens.

He said: “We have got to a point that all Nigerian leaders that are in politics and in business must recognise that we must build and rebuild a country worthy for all.

“At this age, I have a duty to my country to identify with others to rebuild the ladder, which made it possible for me as the son of a farmer in a village that was not on the map to go to school without fees and grow to become the governor of this state.”

He alleged that the Obaseki government had received N16 billion from the federal government as a refund for the federal roads that his administration constructed, adding that such money ought to be used to construct more roads for the people.
