    Buhari Didn’t Back Southern Presidency – Garba Shehu

    The Presidency has denied media reports that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the zoning of the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress to the South.

    Several reports emerged on Saturday night that the President had supported the rotation of power to the South in the 2023 general elections.

    It was learned that Buhari stated this while speaking in at a dinner with All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirants at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

    However, in a chat with BBC on Sunday, Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu described the reports that Buhari had asked party leaders to choose a Southern aspirant as the party’s consensus candidate as false.

    The presidential spokesman also refuted reports that the Nigerian leader said he would only back a southern candidate as his successor.

    Shehu said the president only asked all the aspirants to seek a consensus amongst themselves ahead of the party’s presidential primary election slated for June 6th to 8th.

    2023: Lawan, Yahaya Bello Asked To Step Down For Tinubu

    Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello have been told to step down their 2023 presidential ambition for former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

    The call was made in a statement by the Bola Tinubu campaign organisation through its spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

    The statement also commended the Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru for his decision to step down from contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.

    Reacting, the Tinubu campaign organization urged all northern aspirants in the race for the APC ticket to step down their ambitions in the interest of fairness and justice.

    2023: Oyo Deputy Governor, Olaniyan Dumps PDP for APC

    The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
    Olaniyan made this known in an interview with reporters on Sunday at his private office in Ojoo, Ibadan, the state capital.

    Naija News reports that Olaniyan’s defection to the APC confirms the speculations about his estranged relationship with the State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

    This development comes days after the deputy governor had said that only God will determine his political move in 2023.

    Olaniyan while addressing newsmen at his residence in Ibadan confirmed that he remains a member of the PDP, adding that anything can happen in the next 24 hours.

    He further stated that the fact that he was not with his principal when he obtained his nomination form does not mean that Makinde would drop him as a running mate.

    Olaniyan, however, disclosed that there is no rift between him and Makinde.

    2023: Osinbajo Speaks On Stepping Down Ahead Of APC Primary

    Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday debunked the report that he has stepped down for a presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, ahead of the presidential primary of the party.

    The campaign council of the vice president cleared the air in a statement released through its chairman, Richard Akinnola II.

    Akinnola noted the people behind the fake news are “afraid of the huge political support base of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.”

    The campaign council further stated that the VP is ready for the presidential primary of the ruling party scheduled for June 6-8.

    The council also welcomed all delegates who are coming for APC primary election at the Federal Capital Territory.

    PDP Gov Candidates To Receive Certificates Of Return Tuesday

    Governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election would receive certificates of return on Tuesday.

    The presentation of the certificate would be carried out by the National Working Committee of the main opposition party.

    The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba confirmed this on Sunday.

    Ologunagba in a statement titled ‘Presentation of Certificate of Return to PDP Gubernatorial Candidates’, said the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar will be present at the ceremony.

    The venue for the ceremony is at NEC Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, by 10 am on Tuesday.

    Shettima Apologizes To Osinbajo For Liking Him To A Gala, Ice Cream Seller

    Former Governor of Borno State, Kassim Shettima on Sunday apologised to the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo for liking him to an ice cream seller for contesting against the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.

    Shettima while speaking on his earlier statement said it was not to claim that Osinbajo and Lawan are not worthy of the presidency.

    He said his comment was to clarify that they are non-threatening contenders” to Bola Tinubu, under the ruling party.

    The former governor had stated that the character can’t earn him the Presidency but should be selling Gala and popcorn.

    CNG Slams APC Northern Governors For Backing Southern Presidency

    The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has slammed the Northern governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) for backing the quest for a Southern presidency.

    Naija News recalls that the northern governors in a communique advised northern presidential aspirants to withdraw from the race, ahead of the party presidential primary fixed for the 6th of June.

    The governors and a former governor called for the power to be zoned to the southern part of the country in the 2023 general elections.

    According to the governors, President Muhammadu Buhari should pick his preferred presidential aspirant from the region.

    Reacting to the development, the CNG described the Northern governors as cowards and betrayers for supporting a Southern presidential candidate

    In a statement issued by its spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, on Sunday, the CNG said the Northern governors took such a weighty decision at the expense of the collective interest and future of the North.

    The group, however, labelled the action of the governors as treachery, betrayal and abuse of privilege, adding that their decision would certainly not go unnoticed by the people of the region.

    It said the decision was also clearly a brazen breach of the standard democratic practice by the selfish Northern governors who see power as an end in itself.

    2023: APC Reveals Buhari Stand On Zoning Presidential Ticket

    The All Progressives Congress, APC has spoken on speculations indicating that President Muhammadu Buhari demanded that the presidency be zoned to a region.

    Some reports had earlier claimed that the president insisted that a flag-bearer from the South be selected.

    Buhari and the party leaders met with the aspirants at the State House in Abuja, Saturday night.

    Muhammad Nata’ala Keffi, spokesman to National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu revealed via a statement on Sunday that the party did not discuss zoning.

    He explained that the claims were misleading and untrue.

    PDP Will Soon Realize That APC Victory In 2015 Was Not Because Of Buhari – Festus Keyamo

    Nigerian lawyer, Festus Egwarewa Adeniyi Keyamo has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP will soon realize that the victory the All Progressives Congress, secured in 2015 was not a result of President Muhammadu Buhari being a Northerner.

    Keyamo stated via Twitter that the PDP simply want to make a northerner it’s a presidential candidate because they are desperate to win the 2023 election.

    He maintained that events which would unfold soon would make the party realize that the APC victory is not because of the region it fields its presidential candidate.

    According to him, the People’s Democratic Party will soon “painfully” realise that the All Progressives Congress’s victory in 2015 was because of an additional “Buhari effect”, and not because he was a Northerner.

    2023: Umahi Denies Stepping Down For Lawan

    The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has denied withdrawing his presidential ambition for the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.

    Umahi denied the report making round in two separate statements released by his media aides, Uchenna Orji and Francis Nwaze.

    There were reports that the Ebonyi State Governor was visited by Lawan on Saturday in the Governor’s Abuja residence.

    Umahi and Lawan are presidential aspirants under the All Progressives Congress with the ambition to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari.

    2023: Festus Keyamo Reacts As APC Northern Govs Back Southern Presidency

    The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has reacted to the decision of APC Northern governors to root for a Southern president.

    Keyamo in a post on Twitter stated that the ruling party has come to stay as the national party.

    He claimed that the Northern APC Govs have displayed statesmanship & commitment to the Nigerian Project.

    According to the minister, this is one of the most pivotal moments in the history of Nigeria.
