Taraba state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the silence of governor Darius Ishaku on the occasion of June 12, in commemoration of the nation’s democracy and remembrance of Nigeria Democratic heroes, as a proof of failure, ignorance of what democracy is all about.

Mr. Aaron Artimas, the state APC publicity secretary who spoke to our correspondent on the development on Sunday in Jalingo, described it as a disaster and embarrassment for the Democratic institution of Taraba State.

Artimas said, the governor’s action on the day was proof that he didn’t know the institution that brought him to power and doesn’t recognize it.

“It’s purely embarrassing on the people and the state democracy. In spite of political parties, Tarabans were expecting the governor to address the citizens on the occasion. It was an opportunity for the governor to sensitize citizens on the manner to play politics and honour the democratic heroes of the country and the state.

“This occasion is a nationwide event, it’s now more important that the may 29 that was hitherto democracy day was cancelled for the chief MKO Abiola’s event of June 12 to be honoured as democracy day.

“We are highly disappointed by the governor’s silence on this day, the dishonour on the institution that is governing the nation has painted Taraba as an undemocratic state,” the APC secretary expressed.

It was gathered that the yearly nationwide occasion of June 12 democracy day was not honoured in Taraba State nor did Governor Darius Ishaku issue a speech in honour of the occasion.

Our correspondent also reports that efforts to enquire why the event was not celebrated in Taraba and the governor’s silence, proved abortive as the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Illia Bekyu didn’t respond to calls put to his cell phone and the special adviser to the governor on media and publicity, Mr. Bala Dan Abu’s phone lines were not connecting.
