Flashback: PDP Will Rule Nigeria For 60 Years – Ogbulafor

    Oct 8, 2022

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, has said the ruling party will be in power and rule Nigeria for 60 years.

Naija News reports that Ogbulafor made the statement on March 8, 2008, in Abuja, during his inauguration as the PDP national chairman.

The Abia State-born politician said he doesn’t care if Nigeria becomes a one-party state.

He said: “Some time ago, I used to read in the newspapers that the umbrella of the PDP is torn. Each time I read that, I would laugh and then say to myself that the umbrella is still strong and very intact and ready to accommodate more people.

“The PDP is a party for all and it is set to rule Nigeria for the next 60 years. I don’t care if Nigeria becomes a one-party state. We can do it and the PDP can contain all”

However, in an  interview with Vanguard in 2016, Ogbulafor said he made the controversial statement because there was peace in the party and he also brought in four non-PDP states.

He add that the PDP controlled 28 states and was the majority in the National Assembly, hence his statement that the party will be in power for six decades.

He said: “When I was PDP chairman, there was peace, and I brought in four non-PDP states: Abia, Imo, Sokoto and Bauchi.

“28 states were under me; 28 PDP governors and a good number of National Assembly members and that was why I said PDP would be in office for 60 years.”
