The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the October 10 election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, on Tuesday, claimed that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was not validly nominated by his party.

The former Attorney-General of the state made this claim before the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, on Tuesday.

According to Jegede, the Caretaker Chairman of the opposition party, Mai Mala Buni who happens to be the governor of Yobe State is not supposed to function in the position as a sitting governor.

The PDP governorship candidate on Tuesday submitted some documents through his lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, which were admitted by the Tribunal despite objection from the defendants’ counsel.

Jegede who was cross-examined by counsel to the opposition party, Lateef Fagbemi, noted that he is not a member of the APC and neither does he have information about any court ruling challenging the emergence of Buni as the Caretaker Chairman of the party.

The former Attorney-General of the state while being cross-examined by the counsel to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the Deputy Governor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Akin Olujimi, noted that he did not make the documents, including the APC constitution which he tendered before the Tribunal.

The tribunal sitting was adjourned till Wednesday.
