Defection: ‘I Can’t Watch You Leave Us’ – Shettima Woos Ex-Gov Bindow

Amidst the rumoured plans of defection, the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima has paid a visit to former Adamawa State governor, Jibrilla Bindow.

Bindow, who served as the governor of Adamawa State from 2015 to 2019, lost his re-election campaign in 2019 partly because of disagreements with a few notable party figures, at least two of whom are widely believed to have dissuaded voters from supporting him.

He ran for the party’s governorship ticket in the 2023 election but he was unsuccessful, purportedly because the other candidates used strategies that he did not agree with.

As a result, there were rumours that he was going to leave the APC.

However, Shettima, alongside a few other prominent APC members, paid a visit to Bindow’s home in Abuja on Thursday to persuade him to stay in the party and support the party in the 2023 general elections.

According to DAILY POST, Shettima begged the former governor to jettison plans of leaving the party because he has laboured so much for the party.

Shettima added that he cannot watch Bindow leave the party as they would be working on the mission of winning the 2023 election.

He said: “My brother, you have laboured so much for this party, I can’t watch you leaving us. We are together on the mission of winning the 2023 election.”

The APC vice presidential candidate also acknowledged that Bindow went through a lot of pain due to the party’s internal feuds, but said that attempts were being made to bring the whole APC in Adamawa State together.
