The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is reportedly in a closed-door meeting with governors elected under the opposition party to deliberate on pressing issues ahead of the 2023 polls.

Naija News learnt that the meeting which started at about 2:30 PM in Abuja today was aimed at addressing issues surrounding the candidate’s choice of running mate.

A notice of the meeting according to Vanguard, was put out earlier today by the Secretariat of the PDP Governors Forum and signed by the Director-General of the PDP GF, CID Maduagbanam.

Naija News had reported earlier that leaders of the nation’s major opposition party will today submit the names of the nominees for the Vice President slot to its Presidential candidate, Atiku, for consideration.

The PDP National Working Committee, NWC are said to have made arrangement to submit three names to Atiku to choose his preferred candidate.

It was gathered that the names of the nominees were chosen by the PDP Advisory Committee set up to assist Atiku to choose a running mate.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyiochia Ayu and members of the committee set up for the purpose had met yesterday over the same matter.

It was learned that Atiku was not at the meeting, but would meet with the stakeholders as soon as possible.

There is suspicion that the ongoing meeting in Abuja could be it as Ayu had assured yesterday that the party would name Atiku’s running mate within 48 hours.

Recall that after the primaries, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had given parties till Friday to submit the names of their presidential candidates and their running mates.
