Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has finally resigned his position to face squarely his 2023 presidential ambition.

Naija News understands that the former Rivers State Governor tendered his resignation letter today in obedience to President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to cabinet members with political ambitions.

Recall that Buhari last Wednesday, at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, directed members of his cabinet seeking political offices to declare vacant their various positions on or before Monday, May 16, 2022.

Amaechi who has since declared interest to run for President in 2023, announced today that he no longer serves as the country’s minister under Buhari.

Amaechi has finally resigned from office,” a source in the know told SaharaReporters.

Naija News reports that Amaechi acted differently from the Labour Minister, Chris Ngige and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami – both of whom backed out of contesting any political office in 2023 but instead opted to hold on to their ministerial appointments.

Recall that Malami who currently serves as the Attorney-General of Federation (AGF), had in April declared interest in the Kebbi State governorship race.

The AGF, however, last week pulled out of the Kebbi State governorship race.
