The 2023 presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, have met some party chieftains regarding the forthcoming general elections.
Naija News reports that the meeting was held on Thursday at the residence of the APC presidential flagbearer in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Some of the critical APC stakeholders present at the meeting were Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state and Simon Lalong of Plateau state.
Others present at the meeting included the former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore and the former running mate to Tinubu, Ibrahim Masari.
According to the Nation, the meeting further deepened the relationship between the presidential candidate, his running mate and party leaders.
It is understood that Tinubu has been holding meetings with stakeholders in the party since he emerged as the party flagbearer.
Appointment Of Tinubu Campaign Director-General
It is understood that the ruling APC is considering zoning the director general of the party’s presidential campaign council to the North-West as compensation for the zone missing out on the vice-presidential ticket.
Recall that Tinubu had picked Senator Shettima, from the North-East zone as his running mate.
A top source in Tinubu’s camp told The PUNCH that the APC and its presidential candidate have decided that the director general will be picked from the North-West.
He said Governor El-Rufai is being considered for the role while another person penciled down for the position is Oshiomhole.
