Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has given a special appointment to the former Governor of Abia State and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Naija News reports that Ahmad, a Presidential hopeful, has appointed Kalu as the Director-General of his Central Campaign Organisation.

Kalu’s appointment and that of the Chairmen of eight committees of the campaign organisation were announced at a closed-door meeting held on Thursday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

It was gathered that the meeting, which was well attended by members of the committees, was to fine-tune strategies and consolidate on the gains made so far.

It is understood that Kalu will lead the campaign organisation in order to build a stronger cohesion that would see Lawan emerge as the APC flagbearer during the presidential primary and ultimately win the 2023 general election.

Meanwhile, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, says the two major political parties in the country have lost their political relevance.

Obi claimed that both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot win the 2023 general elections because Nigerians have deserted both parties.

He said the Labour Party would defeat both parties in the upcoming presidential election due to the support from Nigerian workers, youths, and market women.

The former Governor of Anambra State said the strategy of the party will be to reawaken the Nigerian workers and charge them to rescue the country from the APC.

Obi made this known on Wednesday while speaking with journalists through his campaign Director-General, Dr. Doyin Okupe, in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
