The Coalition of South-South and South-East Youth Forum has stated that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State remains the best Vice Presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that Okowa and Governor Nyesom Wike are in the race to become the running mate to the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had on Wednesday during their meeting in Abuja reportedly backed Wike to be the running mate of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

It was learned that the NWC members voted 13-3 to endorse a report of the panel which had earlier nominated Wike for the VP ticket.

Sources told TheCable that members of the PDP NWC have also communicated their decision to Atiku.

Recall that an advisory panel set up by the PDP to help select Atiku’s running mate had also earlier voted in favour of Wike over Governor Okowa and Governor Emmanuel.

In an interview with The PUNCH, the Coordinator of the forum, Eziwomano Ighoegwu, said that Okowa is a man with proven records that can deliver peace and unity to Nigerians.

He added that Okowa’s good work in Delta and ensuring peaceful co-existence among indigenes and non-indigenes of the state make him the best candidate for the vice-presidential slot.

He said, “Governor Okowa is a man with proven records that can deliver peace and unity to Nigerians, adding that his good work of transforming the state and ensuring peaceful co-existence among indigenes and non-indigenes of the state, can be attested to.

“The decision of endorsing Okowa is to ensure that Atiku has a running mate who would support him in rescuing the country from the insecurity and social vices that have hit Nigeria under the Buhari–led administration.”
