The spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, Dino Melaye, has welcomed the former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naija News recalls that the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu and other party leaders welcomed Shekarau back to the party in Kano State on Monday.
Shekarau defected along with thousands of his fans and supporters after accusing the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, of betrayal and breach of trust.
Prior to the 2015 general elections, the former Minister of Education was a member of the PDP but left for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, Melaye expressed confidence that Shekarau will not leave the party again, dismissing claims that the former governor is a “serial defector”.
The former Kogi Central Senator pointed out that the former governor defected to the PDP with hundreds of thousands of his followers and supporters.
He said: “You can write it down and take it to the bank, he (Shekarau) is not going to leave the PDP.
“He is here for good. And he didn’t come alone. He came with all his supporters, hundreds of thousands of them.
“And I want to assure you that we are all going to join hands together to rescue this country.”
