There are indications that former President Goodluck Jonathan is considering the platform of the All Progressives Congress to contest the 2023 presidential election.

This is coming after members of the Fulani community purchased the presidential form of the ruling party for the former president.

It was gathered that Jonathan who had earlier rejected the offer by the group to contest on the platform of the ruling party changed his mind after two hours of meeting with leaders and members of the group.

According to Vanguard, Jonathan reportedly met with members of the group between 11 pm on Monday and 1 am on Tuesday to question the group for purchasing the forms without his consent.

It was learnt that the leader of the group, Ibrahim Abdullahi during the meeting apologised to Jonathan and pleaded with him to overlook their action and accept the call to run.

Members of the group reportedly told Jonathan that they purchased the form for him as a demonstration of their appreciation for the N60 billion investments he made for the Almajiris.

Jonathan while in government-built schools and created other investment opportunities for Almajiris.

A source disclosed that Jonathan after listening to their plea reluctantly accepted to consider running on the platform of the APC.

He promised to get back to them but did not give them a specific date.

Jonathan asked members of the group never to take such a step on his behalf without reaching out to him first, considering his position in Nigeria and the international community.

He further stated that he was uncomfortable to hear about the purchase of the form, which he considered insulting to his status as a former president of Nigeria.

There are claims that the inner caucus of the former president who was against him running on the platform of the APC has started giving him the nod to go ahead.

It was stated that some loyalists of the former president have joined with the Fulani community in completing the APC presidential nomination form for Jonathan to meet the deadline for submission of the form.

A source said, “I can tell you that Jonathan’s loyalists cut across party lines and the majority of them have been encouraging him to run. That is why some of them are helping with the completion of the nomination form for the former president.”
