Twenty repentant Boko Haram fighters have lost their lives following a cholera outbreak in the Hajj camp where about 12,000 repentant terrorists are kept in Maiduguri.

There are claims that some others who are not repentant terrorists also lost their lives to the outbreak.

A report revealed that not less than seven people lost their lives on Tuesday due to the outbreak.

According to Daily Trust, fourteen other causalities were recorded in the Hajj camp on Wednesday.

A source that spoke on the development said health workers with the support of Non-Governmental Organisations and the World Health Organisation are trying to control the outbreak of Cholera in the camp.

The source said, “At least 20 Boko Haram surrenders have died as a result of cholera outbreak in Hajj and four others died in Bama camp. Also, three reportedly died in the Muna Garage IDP camp.

“Nearly 1,000 cases have been reported so far, and hundreds are currently receiving treatments in various health centres.”

A top Ministry of Health worker, who spoke on the crisis, claimed that only eleven repentant Boko Haram fighters died in the camp, while three others lost their lives in Muna Garage IDP camp and not 20 people.

The Ministry of Health staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the ministry and its partners are on top of the situation.
